Enhancing food packaging safety procedures - the haccp opportunity, Corrugating International, November 1999, Vol. 1(3)

Although the use of Hazard Critical Control Points (HACCP) for food processing is not required, the regulations and voluntary actions offer food packaging manufacturers an opportunity to enhance their food packaging safety procedures. Primary and converting packaging groups can use the newer HACCP methodology to reinforce and enhance the existing food packaging safety systems in the market pulp, paperboard, containerboard and container sectors of their companies. The enhanced, more preventive system puts more responsibility where it can be applied best - at the plant or mill level. Each person who has responsibility for food packaging manufacturing and safety has a structure for defining the issues and ensuring they are addressed.
