Challenges in Adapting Biotechnology to Pulp and Paper: The Academic Role, 1997 Biological Sciences Symposium Proceedings
The pulp and paper industry is facing a major change to its core process technology no less dramatic than the change from steamships to airplanes for passenger travel. This coming transition provides academia with the opportunity to contribute to the industry through specific challenges in education and research. In order to make progress in the development of bioprocessing for the pulp and paper industry, academia needs to develop new educational products in continuing education and degree programs. It also needs to develop or support a research partnership with industry and government to advance the science and speed commercialization of bioprocessing in order to reduce capital and energy costs as well as environmental impact
