My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
Owing to their productivity and fiber quality Eucalyptus species are extensively grown in various countries throughout the world for pulp making. Their improvement through genetic engineering is being actively investigated in order to manipulate herbicide or pest resistance, frost tolerance and lignification. In addition to basic studies on lignin synthesis and manipulation through RNA antisense strategy we are investigating methods for genetic transformation of Eucalyptus. In this paper we describe and discuss the results obtained through two procedures on Eucalyptus globulus, among the most frequently exploited species but also among the most recalcitrant.
