How the New Corrugated Presses Will Assist the Maximization of Product While Improving Package Designs Through Better Quality Graphics, 1992 Corrugated Containers Conference Proceedings
Harvey S. Share--Just ten years ago at the FTA forum in Toronto, Peter Baster, our Director of Corrugated Technical. Services, presented to the group a multicolor sheet-fed flexo press designed for the production of high-quality printing on both solid and combined corrugated board.
You will recall that preprinting of liner board was fashionable at the time. The direct-print concept was considered a Less than serious alternative. As a result, the introduction of that press and the technology required to accomplish the end results received an unprecedented amount of publicity.
Today, direct printing on combined board is viewed as the significant method of producing value-added graphics economically, at a superior level of quality, and without concern for the size of the order.
Enormous progress has been made by converters, during the last decade, to improve the superiority of printing on their existing machines. They have abandoned old habits, implemented new techniques, and have Learned to utilize better tools and graphic designs suited to direct printing. They have placed an increased value on the training and craftsmanship of their machine operators and created partnerships with their suppliers- all of which have improved the level of quality.
Machinery manufacturers, spurred on by the ever increasing interest in the process, are ceaselessly developing new machines and technology to meet those needs.
