Case Making Process Optimization, 1992 Corrugated Containers Conference Proceedings
Andrew M. Lau, Trevor H. Davies--The production of cases comprises the printing, creasing, folding, cutting and joining of corrugated fibreboards on an automatic case-convertor. Fishtailing, or the misalignment of case panels, often arises due to the machine-material interaction within the process. By applying an experimental technique on a flexo-gluer case-maker, the gluing and squaring operations together have been identified as a main contribution to fishtailing. It has further revealed that creasing and folding operations are of secondary importance, and that the machine speed plays a relatively insignificant role in producing fishtailing. The paper also provides guidelines for the design of case-convertors.
