My TAPPI Story: Naomi Gehling
J. Thorpe, D. Choi--Linear Image Strain Analysis (LISA) is a revolutionary new method to measure strains or deformations in any structure. The technique is especially important to making measurements on paper and paperboard because it is a non-contact method that measures two-dimensional strain fields, not single one-dimensional strain measurements. The method is very accurate, fast, applicable to a wide range of specimen sizes, and currently available for UNIX based computer systems. The method as applied in this study measures 250 in-plane strain measurements on one quarter of a corrugated container vertical face. These measurements can be made in time intervals as small as l/30 of a second during the test period. Strain profile maps at individual time intervals are calculated to present a detailed analysis of corrugated container compression behavior.
