Measurement of Glue on Corrugated Board by Fluorescence X, 1993 Corrugated Containers Conference Proceedings

Claude C. Trudelle, Joel Poustis--The Fluorescence X technique, with zinc oxide as the tracing agent, has been applied to glue measurement on corrugated board. A three-year experience with the technique has proven its usefulness in the area of glue distribution profile.measurement.

A calibration method which does not depend on board composition has also been developed in order to enhance the practicality of the technique. Thus, only a one-time calibration is necessary. The differences in board composition are taken into account by the correction formula developed by Saint-Gobain Papier-Bois Recherche.

The accuracy of the technique will largely depend on the quality of the calibration standards and the introduction of zinc oxide into the glue.
