New Liquid Adhesive Application Techniques Improve Corrugated Box Quality, 1996 Corrugated Containers Conference Proceedings
James T. Auber--For many years, corrugated box manufacturers have needed more flexibility with the glue lap application to corrugated boxes. Current competitive pressures increase the demands to make short runs, change box format quickly and minimize maintenance. At the same time, costs must be controlled and quality must be improved in order to remain competitive. Technology now exists to run different length box blanks randomly through a folder gluer. Adhesive is applied to each blank in the proper length, amount and position without adjusting any part of the system. Furthermore, an automated quality control system can monitor the glue pattern, volume and placement, indicate any substandard box for removal from the shipment and make a printout of the final result. Manufacturers can attach this printout to the shipment, creating an ISO-9000-documented shipment.
