Vibrations in Film Presses, 2000 Coating Conference Proceedings
M. Kustermann--The wider and faster papermachines become the more prone they are to vibration problems. One vibration type, the so called “contact vibration” was first discussed at the wet end section (press) and also in the calender area (“barring”). There is practically no literature available discussing this type of vibration in soft roll applications like film presses. This study discusses some film press specific phenomenons. It describes the importance of the roll cover for this topic. Some hints are given how to avoid severe production disturbances. In the outlook first results obtained with an active vibration compensating system as an approach to overcome the restrictions dictated by the various demands for the film press and its cover are presented.
