Optimizing Titanium Dioxide Use in Multiple Coated Paperboard, 1993 Coating Conference Proceedings
A method to guide multiple coated paperboard TiO2 optimization uses a computer model based in Kubelka-Munk theory. This model describes the impact on coated paperboard appearance, brightness and cost of changing precoat and topcoat TiO2 contents and coat weights. The model predicts very accurately the final board brightness achieved by various precoat/topcoat combinations and calculates a total coating opacity value which correlates with coated board appearance.
