On HydroDynamics and Air Entrainment in Short-Dwell Coating Processes, 1996 Coating Conference Proceedings

This is a experimental study on the hydrodynamics of short-dwell coating processes. Experimental simulations of the flow in the coating pond were performed. Results describe the hydrodynamic patterns in a short-dwell coating pond. Experimental observations reveal two possible factors which will induce instability to the processes; high Reynolds numbers and air entrainment. A low pressure zone in the middle of the pond contributes to air entrainment. The strong recirculating flow field and the possible instability are responsible for operating unpredictability and poorer product quality.
