Troubleshooting Dye Dulling and Retention Problems, 1998 Coating Conference Proceedings

Colored paper is a specialty grade. The ever increasing quality demand from consumers and the ever changing wet end conditions have brought challenges to papermakers. Dye dulling is one of the quality problems of color grades. Retention aid programs play an important role in affecting the dulling problem. This study shows how different retention programs affect two common dyes. The mechanisms of dye dulling are discussed and their corrective methods suggested.
