Summary Report of the 18th PTS Coating Symposium 1997, 1998 Coating Conference Proceedings

The 18th PTS Coating Symposium, traditionally organized by Papiertechnische Stiftung Munich at the Munich Sheraton, drew an international capacity crowd and provided an unprecedented number of presentations plus a roundtable. All papers and discussions were simultaneously translated into German/English/French.

Programme highlights of the symposium were new development trends of raw materials, recent technological trends, market performance of coated papers and paperboards, the impact of basepapers on product quality, coating pigments, the increasing popularity of the film press, the evolution of applicators, multiple coating, brightness aspects, infrared drying concepts, calendering/supercalendering including on-line and soft calendering techniques, quality-determining factors and printability aspects. The entire coating area was covered in terms of the latest findings obtained from research and industrial practice.

The award of the PTS medal, an exhibition with 48 exhibitors, an evening programme and plant visits contributed to a successful conference.
