Lab Description:
Using either a Valley Beater or PFI Mill, pulps are refined in the laboratory (1) to monitor pulp quality, and (2) to see if the paper mill is utilizing and optimizing use of the pulp.
Scope and Learning Objectives:
These self guided testing labs and video modules demonstrate the procedures used to test chips, pulping & bleach liquors and pulp. They will also provide some background about the property being tested. The overall learning objective is to increase your understanding of why and how these tests and procedures are performed.
The outline you should follow for each lab is to learn the background information on the property being tested, note the
TAPPI Standard (T200), or Useful Method that are referenced, then view the video on the correct testing procedure. Sample data is provided. Some of the labs will require calculations and analysis of data, and other labs will provide final data without calculations. A short set of thought questions is included at the end.
