Contact Angle

Lab Description:
The Contact Angle test measures the change in the contact angle of a drop of water in a certain amount of time. The smaller the contact angle, the more rapidly liquids spread and penetrate into the sheet.
Scope and Learning Objectives:
These self guided testing labs and video modules demonstrate the procedures used to test paper and board. They will also provide some background about the property being tested. The overall learning objective is to increase your understanding of why and how these tests and procedures are performed.
The outline you should follow for each lab is to learn the background information on the property being tested, note the
TAPPI Standard (T458), or Useful Method that are referenced,then view the video on the correct testing procedure. Sample data is provided. Some of the labs will require calculations and analysis of data, and other labs will provide final data without calculations. A short set of thought questions is included at the end.
