Lab Description:

Moisture content of a sheet affects paper & board properties. Conditioning the sheets at a controlled relative humidity and temperature
Is intended to have the %MC reach equilibrium. Preparation of machine made paper is important to determine the MD and CD before testing.

Scope and Learning Objectives:

These self guided testing labs and video modules demonstrate the procedures used to test paper and board. They will also provide some background about the property being tested. The overall learning objective is to increase your understanding of why and how these tests and procedures are performed.

The outline you should follow for each lab is to learn the background information on the property being tested, note the TAPPI Standard (T402, T220 and T409), or Useful Method that are referenced,then view the video on the correct testing procedure. Sample data is provided. Some of the labs will require calculations and analysis of data, and other labs will provide final data without calculations. A short set of thought questions is included at the end.
