Dual-Deckle System for Troublefree Web Width Variation, 2003 European PLACE Conference Proceedings
Web width variation is a common requirement on many extrusion lines. Extrusion coating and laminating
processes often need to change width significantly to allow various substrate widths to be accommodated in
an efficient manner. A variety of web width adjusting systems, commonly called deckles, are made
available by extrusion die manufacturers and have historically fallen into two categories: external deckles,
or internal deckles. An approach is now available which combines these two types of deckling systems,
providing great synergy. When incorporated into a die with an appropriate flow channel design and a
modern flex lip adjusting system, the dual-deckle system will significantly improve operational efficiency
by minimizing costly down time.
