Flat Die Design for Conical Extruders, 2003 European PLACE Conference Proceedings
Conical extruder, Conex® is based on design, where both screws and stators are in conical shape. The
bahaviour of conical design during extrusion has introduced several items which differ from traditional
extruders. These are for example low residence time, rapid melting, orientation effects, extrudate with no
welding lines or compact design. The most interesting fields in studies of applications has been found from
special targets, where the properties attained build an advantage and where traditional extruders have they
weak points. Earlier development has been covering circular products like pipes, tubular films and cables, but
now a specific die has been designed to fullfill the demand of conical extruder in flat sheet and film
production. This presentation introduces a novel flat die design to distribute a tubular flow into a flat film.
