The Use of Qualitative Analysis Techniques for Improved On-Line Measurements, 2003 European PLACE Conference Proceedings
Infrared technology has traditionally been applied for on-line coat weight measurements of polymers on
extrusion or board coatings. Ever since, numerous improvements have been made to achieve higher
measurement reliability.
The new IR measurement technique combines the most recent quantitative method of the spectral analysis with a
new qualitative method to understand and compensate effects on the coat weight measurement implied by the
substrate, such as board.
Thus, measurements become more accurate and repeatability is improved. The overall benefits are enhanced
measurement and control.
