Due to their mechanical properties and their barrier behaviour to gases and flavours, polyamides are widely used
in films for flexible food packaging. Secondly, the addition of nano-size fillers to polymers offers interesting
new material properties. In this paper, a new film grade polyamide clay nanocomposites, which is especially
suitable for extrusion coating applications, is presented. The material offers significantly improved barrier properties
compared to standard polyamide grades. Extrusion coating experiments have shown an improved flow
behaviour, which can give more stability and reliability to the coating process at points where the standard
grades occasionally lead to problems.
