Solid Colour Decorative Papers: Manufacture and Use, 1993 European Plastic Laminates Forum Proceedings

In our industry we often meet situations where a customer and his supplier discuss the acceptability of a shade. This may occur between a paper maker and an impregnator, between a laminator and a kitchen furniture manufacturer etc... . Everyone is concerned by such problems.

It is important to be aware of the fact that colour measuring only helps you take the decision. It doesn’t merely enable you to classify a colour in the category “accepted” or in the category “refused”. This is both due to the very nature of colour (which is not a physical property like basis weight or porosity) and to the limits of colour measuring at the present time.

Moreover, shade creation possibilities in the decorative industry are not unlimited.
