Latest Developments in the High Pressure Laminate Press Technology, 1993 European Plastic Laminates Forum Proceedings

Decorative high pressure laminates based on thermo-setting resins are conventionally produced in multi-opening presses by pressing impregnated paper sheets while heating and cooling to a laminate of different thickness and different surface finish (fig. no. 1).

Changes in market situation and economical aspects forced the laminators and at the same time the mechanical engineering to perform new pressing systems which meet these demands.

Apart from the multi-opening presses other systems with less openings and faster cycle times have been developed and single opening presses are now available.

This paper tries to present a comparison between these different systems in technical, technological and economical regard.
