Coextrusion technology for flat webs is a mature science. Since the 1970’s polymers of different physical characteristics have been combined in a molten state and formed into a flat sheet. The combined polymers create a structure of polymers with each individual layer contributing specific attributes to the finished product. No individual polymer can offer the property enhancements available through combination in coextrusion. This paper will review the feedblock technology available for combining polymers in coextrusion for flat webs and introduce new technology to enhance interlayer uniformity and flexibility in product design.
