Packaging - Essential Requirements and Compliance With the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive, 2001 European PLC Conference Proceedings
Freddy Maréchal--Packaging may be placed on the EU market only if it complies with all Essential Requirements defined by the Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPW) Directive. Under this « New approach » Directive, CEN, as mandated by the European Commission, has developed detailed standards and reports defining further these essential requirements. To demonstrate compliance with the Directive, packers/fillers and packaging manufacturers shall keep record of information on the materials and substances used in their packaging, and document their conformity certification. Such information has to be supplied by all the actors in the upstream supply chain. This presentation will summarise the latest regulatory and legislative developments on the issue. It will also explain the initiatives taken by plastics industry to meet at the same time its own needs, as packer/filler, and those of its customers and partners in the packaging chain.
