Breathable Film Composites: New Technologies for Economical Extrusion, 2001 European PLC Conference Proceedings
Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Berghaus
The market for breathable film and film comopistes is going to find new pathes as well in hygienic as in technical applications. The latter one is at this moment dominated by the building industry, e.g. as roof linings. Especially the application breakthrough in the hygienic industry is subject to cost discussions besides the required properties of comfort as a priority.
For achieving usable mechanical properties, the production of breathable film has to be considered always in conjunction with the necessary bonding with nonwoven fabrics.
Today, bonding techniques are performed in additional processing steps using thermoenergy or glue. Such further processing steps involve higher cost. Therefore it is obvious that cost saving potentials are lying in the reduction of processing steps for the manufacture of breathable film / nonwoven composites.
