Update in Cast Film & MDO Machinery, 2001 European PLC Conference Proceedings

Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Jürgen Miethlinger--This paper deals with latest developments in cast film technology, giving special attention to the requirements for extrusion and downstream equipment in state of the art processing lines. The influence of screw design on the properties of the final product is considered. The principle of the horizontal sliding winder enabling scrabless bobbin change at full line speeds up to 600 m/min is discussed. Furthermore the process of producing breathable plastic films by MD-stretching of LLDPE filled with CaCO3 is presented, critical process factors and solutions for the same are identified. The high quality production of multi-layer cast films for packaging applications is described with examples of line setups including all before mentioned elements.
