A Decision-Making Tool for Optimizing Pulp and Paper Mill Operations, 2003 Fall Technical Conference

The economic and operability benefits resulting from the optimization of production planning and scheduling in the Pulp & Paper industry can be numerous and significant. A better plan and/or schedule can result in increased amounts of production or reduced cost of production depending on the target that is set each time, and the specific conditions under which each mill is operating. The intent of this article is to illustrate a software tool that has been developed by American Process Inc. for delivering custom-made solutions for planning and scheduling problems in the Pulp & Paper industry, and outline the basic concepts of the methodology that this tool is based upon.
