High Selectivity Oxygen Delignification of SW and HW Kraft Pulps with Tailored Bleachability Properties, 2003 Fall Technical Conference

Maximizing the yield from kraft pulping and bleaching operations is a key operational goal for many modern elemental chlorine free (ECF) pulping and bleaching operations. Until recently, the synergistic benefits of integrating kraft pulping and oxygen delignification technologies have been largely overlooked. Our research has been directed at demonstrating that the kraft pulping protocols have a direct impact on oxygen delignification bleachability and selectivity. This paper examines the potential of improving the yield and physical properties of kraft pulps post oxygen delignification by controlling the H-factor and active alkali charge of the kraft cook.
