Multiport dryer technology is being developed for application in large steam drum paper dryers. The technology was originally conceived at Argonne National Laboratory where laboratory scale experiments demonstrated its viability and quantified its potential efficiency. The technology has now evolved into a full-scale prototype multiport dryer insert for retrofit into existing drum dryers. A multiport prototype dryer insert has been designed and fabricated for testing in a full-scale drum dryer operated at the Johnson Corporation R&D facility. It has been designed for testing under conditions prototypic of the paper industry. The design and final fabricated prototype are presented and discussed.
