The optimizer is an application designed to optimize efficiency in real time. A major trial is in progress at a large integrated pulp and paper mill in Sweden. Preliminary evaluations of the system indicate that the project objective of a 3-5% increase in first quality product will be met. Another benefit is a reduction in the make-up chemicals demand.
The system assesses the on-line status of key elements like production rates and buffer tank levels etc. based on measurements, laboratory data, capacity constraints and scheduled maintenance. It then predicts the dynamic behavior of the mill, considers all the constraints, including the chemical balance and raw material usage, energy management and overall production levels and then proposes suitable courses of action to optimize production in a cost effective manner.
