My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
Research efforts have been directed at evaluating the physical and chemical differences in wood, kraft brownstock and fully ECF bleached Kraft pulps prepared from southern thinning and mature softwood resources. These investigations demonstrated several key differences in the wood chips and brownstock kraft pulps acquired from thinning and mature SW furnish. In the second phase of these studies we focused on assessing the impact of SW thinnings for the production of bleached kraft pulp. The physical strength results acquired in this study indicate that after bleaching differences in tensile, tear and burst indexes are narrowed, with respect to the differences reported for the kraft brown stocks.
