The sulphur-free IDE (Impregnation, Delignification and Extraction) pulping concept was developed, since sulphur-free black liquors may be successfully gasified. The pulping concept has now also been considered for high-yield dissolving pulps. Chip prehydrolysis was introduced to provide pulps suitable for spinning. Low prehydrolysis and impregnation temperatures were selected to reduce the initial alkali consumption and to maintain a high pulp yield. The high-yield cellulose pulps obtained were however not fully dissolving evidently due to the mild prehydrolysis introduced.
