Description:"Over the past two decades more and more process and manufacturing companies have outsourced supporting functions as a means of improving overall financial and service performance; the basic concept being that management needs to focus on the core business functions. Because non-core functions do not receive this attention, real performance improvements in these areas are rare and companies look to out source the activity to those who make it their core business. Over the last several years some companies have been successful in operating and maintaining various types of facilities and in essence performing those functions, which are commonly outsourced.

Transitioning maintenance from an in-house workforce to a contractor can be a traumatic experience if not carefully planned and executed. Probably the greatest fear in outsourcing is the perceived disruption of work. In this regard, contractors must develop a transition process that allows as close to a seamless transition as possible. As the client’s workforce is transitioned, concerns for the affected employees must be a top priority. The best practice outsourcing model retains as many of the best performing employees as possible based on input from the client.

Outsourcing savings in maintenance could average 17% after three years.

The Maintenance functions could be performed by the right contractor who align their activities with the goals of the clients to achieve their corporate objectives, provide the foundation for delivering entire life cycle of capital assets; from conceptual design to the end of its useful life."
