My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
The challenge to broaden recycling efforts has been a grassroots movement with the public pressing industry to change. In response, we are running recycled paper trials on a machine calender, a supercalender and a soft compact calender in our research center, and finding that soft compact calenders give the best paper surface characteristics on recycled paper. What problems arise in the manufacture of recycled paper? How does adding deinked paper change newsprint? How do calendering and recycled paper affect each other? How does use of deinked paper affect printability? These and other questions will be addressed.
