Advanced Ceramic Material Offers Advantages for Slitting and Sheeting Operations, 1992 Finishing and Converting Conference Proceedings
An Advanced Ceramic Material That Meets the Quality Demands put on the Paper Converting and Finishing Industry.
The Paper Industry has experienced some revolutionary changes in recent years. New equipment, new processes, and new quality demands have the converting and finishing segment of the industry looking for "tomorrow’s solutions" today. Producing a Quality product is the number one rule for corporate survival.
This paper will address how the industry has met these quality challenges by looking at a historical review of materials that have been used to cut and slit paper. Emphasis will be made on how these materials have performed, and how changes in papermaking have put new demands on the available cutting materials. We will be looking closely at the application of an advanced ceramic material. The use of these ceramic based anvils will be discussed and results of actual applications will be cited. Particular attention will be given to the positive affects that this "ceramic" material has had on finished paper quality. Actual applications seem to indicate that advanced ceramic is clearly Tomorrow’s Solution available to the Papermaker of Today.
