Update: Synthetic Composite Covers in Supercalenders, 1992 Finishing and Converting Conference Proceedings

Synthetic composite Supercalender covers have been in use now for over a decade. They now occupy nearly 20% of the available "compliant" positions in U.S. Supercalenders. Their use ranges from a single synthetic composite roll cover being utilizied in a top or bottom supercalender position for mark resistance; to complete stacks filled only with synthetic composite covered rolls. Comparisons to cotton filled rolls and amongst different synthetic composite covers will be made. The potential use and benefits of these covers will be discussed. Also, improved raw materials and manufacturing techniques will lead to new, even more resilient covers for tomorrow.
