Moisture Effects on Webs and Rolls, 1992 Finishing and Converting Conference Proceedings
Cellulose loves water. Thus it will take on or give up moisture until it reaches equilibrium with its environment. In Part I of this article, the profound effects of these changing web/roll/box moistures on material properties and converting operations will be described. In Part II of this article, a simple diffusion model is derived which allows prediction of changing moisture contents at any time and location within webs, rolls and boxes for a variety of converting situations. Additionally, strong parallels are developed between moisture diffusion and heat conduction.
