My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette

David Borgel
The technology to wrap pulp and paper rolls with plastic film has been developing since the early 1980’s. Horizontal Traverse Wrapping has been used in the majority of cases with pulp and paper, while cocoon wrapping has been used largely in packaging tissue roll product. The traditional approach in Horizontal Traverse Wrapping was to apply a heavy gauge stretch film with low or minimal stretching. However, the developments in resin and film technology have produced heavy gauge high performance stretch films that can be stretched to high levels, and deliver equivalent product protection. Specific design features must be included in Horizontal Traverse Wrapping equipment to profit from these new films. The use of these high performance stretch films also reduces roll packaging costs and film consumption.
