Roll and Web Defect Terminology, 1993 Finishing and Converting Conference Proceedings
Quality is the key to success in today’s market place. In order to achieve consistent production of quality products we must be able to identify defects and take quick action to eliminate them. Communication is essential to the success of identification and elimination. The purpose of this book is to provide a common reference base for defect identification and to provide a means for the web producers, converters and printers to communicate defect problems through a common language. This common nomenclature will facilitate more meaningful statistical comparisons of defects, which is the first step in bringing a process under control to eliminate defects and provide the consistency of quality products which we are all striving towards.
"Roll and Web Defect Terminology" was compiled by a Special Task Force under the Winding Committee of the TAPPI Finishing and Converting Division. The Task Force members gratefully acknowledge the contributions of the Consulting Editors who have contributed their time and knowledge to make this the most complete and useful reference guide available on this subject. We would also like to acknowledge the previous publications which have been used. These include "Roll Defect Terminology", "Classification of Newsprint Defects", "Blade Coating Defect Terminology", and "Web and Roll Glossary of Defect Terms" which are listed in the Reference Section.
