The first paper by the authors on this subject, published in the November 1991 TAPPI Journul, discussed ramp applications in paper mill finishing and shipping operations and explained how no scientific basis for selecting ramp slope had been established to date. The paper presented a mathematical model, developed by the authors, that provided a means for the prediction of paper roll velocity and displacement down a given incline. This paper presents the results of numerous physical tests using rolls of varying hardness on a ramp of known slope in support of the mathematical model. These results are tabulated and graphed to provide reference material for ramp analysis and design.
