Corrugated Pallets and Their Effect on Corrugated Box Performance, 1994 Finishing and Converting Conference Proceedings
M. Crews
The performance of a corrugated box during use is a function not only of design and manufacture, but that of handling as well, particularly during shipping and storage. In this regard, performance is significantly affected by the design of the shipping pallet used to transport and store corrugated boxes. The size and design of traditional wooden pallets can contribute to corrugated box failure if they are not used correctly. Corrugated shipping platforms, when designed, manufactured and used correctly, have been tested and proven able to cushion loads, prevent overhang and underhang, enhance load strength and reduce box breakdown. Tests conducted on corrugated shipping platforms demonstrate that they provide strength and support similar to wooden pallets. Corrugated shipping platforms can also provide superior cushioning and protection of fragile products.
