The media path of a printer is responsible for accurately constraining the media at the proper locations in order to achieve maximum print quality performance. Media paths representing the current line of HP inkjet office printers will be discussed. These paths will be broken down into their respective components to illustrate the important media characteristics that enable quality performance. From pick to eject, the printer depends on consistent media properties to ensure accurate media transport. Pertinent media characteristics include stiffness, curl, smoothness and edge continuity. In order to understand this dependence on media quality, some undesirable media properties are identified. To ensure the ability to advance technology in Inkjet writing systems, all media manufacturers must take the responsibility of producing quality products without undesirable characteristics.
