Since the early 1980’s, Machine Vision has been used extensively by many industries to detect flaws, count objects, verify assembly, measure objects, and determine the relationship between features of interest.
This paper presents a case history of the use of Machine Vision to inspect reams and cartons of xerographic paper. Although not intended to be a primer on Machine Vision, criteria for selecting the system, design of the optics and lighting, inspection algorithms, operator interface, communications and data collection, hardware design, and acceptance test will be discussed.
