Computer Simulation techniques are recognized as useful tools for a wide variety of applications in manufacturing and service industries. Simulation studies are used to assess complex systems with many variables and where a significant capital investment or operational change needs to be investigated. Using a scientific and methodical approach, simulation models serve to highlight bottlenecks and potential problems in systems relationships. Many variations of alternatives can be examined over a short period of time.
This presentation will first discuss common modeling technologies, then provide an overview of discrete event simulation modeling technology. We will explain what the benefits are, where to apply it, and the basic elements of conducting a successful simulation study. To illustrate and demonstrate the capabilities of the technology, two recent projects - an automated guided vehicle system, and a wrap line modeling study and graphic animation - will be reviewed and explained.
