This article covers a very wide range of material properties, winding methods, drive applications and winding plateaus with the intention to benefit both the novice and expert through a broader viewpoint and insights to other applications. The challenge is to look at converters that handle winding applications of much broader range, and to look beyond paper in order to recognize application similarities from which we can learn. From center to center-surface winding, and from duplex to differential, gap and contact winding, this paper relates to drives, horsepower, torque, load shares, tapers, nip, tension and tension isolation.
