Synthetic roll covers are gaining popularity in supercalender positions because they have mark resistance superior to that of filled rolls and thereby have the potential to offer longer regrind intervals. The maximum benefits of running synthetic covers can only be achieved if protocols are implemented to monitor the calender stack and properly apply the covers. This paper lists and discusses important monitoring tools that can be used to extend the life of supercalender covers and Improve overall calender stack performance.
