Spiral paper tubes are more and more stressed during use because of the recent technological developments of winding industries. The flat crush test that is still today the only performance measurement made by most of the manufacturers is no more sufficient to estimate the mechanical behavior of a core. So, we decided to characterize the spiral core in the loading case of three-point-bending mode. The experimental study has required the design and the validation of a static test bench. Cores have been tested with varying tests conditions in order to appreciate the importance of the different parameters such as number of samples to test or machine loading rate. This investigation has led to define a testing procedure. The results provided by our experimental device testing tubes with different spans, compared with different theoretical approaches, have also shown precautions to take for an accurate computation of the flexural modulus of the cores.
