There have numerous changes in the winder finishing operation brought about by the evolution of technology. The results have created dramatic changes in the capacity and versatlity of the 2-drum winder. The thinking 20 years ago in some quarters would have required Two (2) winders to keep up to the high speed paper machine. With the advancement of modern day technology this has proven not to be the case. However, a great deal of this technology still has not found its way on many machine floors. This paper is an observation of machine floor practices.
