Improving Grade Structure with the Installation of a Metering Roll Coater, 1996 Metered Size Press Forum Proceedings
Mr. Monsaingeon
Papeteries du Bourray
The Papeteries du Bourray paper mill in France has made the transition from a mill producing surface sized and pigmented offset products, to a mill producing on-line coated paper grades. The initial investigation on the on-line coating processes started in 1988. The target for the investigation was to find a coating process that could simultaneously apply 10 g/m 2 to each side of the paper web. The Billblade coating technique would have been a natural choice for the coating operation, but due to poor runnability on the weak base paper with high content of recycled fibers, the project ended up installing the newly developed premetered roll coater in 1991. The considerations by the choice of the equipment and production experiences are presented.
