Kraft Pulping of Slash Pine, 1991 Forest Products Symposium Proceedings

Statistically designed experiments for pulping slash pine have been conducted in two types of large-scale digesters to study the effects of effective alkali, sulfidity, cooking temperature and cooking time on the pulp yield, Kappa number, delignification and black liquor composition. The total pulp yield (oven dry wood) and Kappa number have been correlated to the H factor, effective alkali and sulfidity. These correlations can be used to predict pulp yields and Kappa numbers in mill processing. Results are presented and discussed. Final work needed to permit response analyses of the data is discussed.
